March 1, 2011; by John Hawley,

Anesthesiologist Margaret Negrete is an inspiration to many having been physically fit and active in sporting events her entire life. For the last twenty-six years of her life she has competed as either a bodybuilder or figure competitor originally in the American Athletic Union (AAU) and since their bodybuilding spin off she's been with the National Physique Committee (NPC).

Five of her national level contests over the last two years have seen top three finishes. This week, accompanied by her husband Scott Stein she is taking her baggies of prepared food to compete in bodybuilding at the Arnold Classic in Columbus, Ohio, March 3-6.

Stein is also a competitor who took from 2002 till 2009 off, but stormed back then with a 2nd place middleweight placing at the 2009 IFBB North Americans and a 5th place spot at the 2010 Masters Nationals. He is taking another year off from competing to recuperate from hip replacement surgery last year, but will be in Columbus supporting his wife.

She has no other expectation at this point besides doing her best and looks forward to participating in the Arnold Classic. "I've always just loved Arnold," Negrete said. "Ever since I saw him at the Ms. Olympia I went to and took a picture of him and although it was really far away I carried it in my wallet for years. So I'm excited just to go and be a part of this show."

With a lightened work load of 12-15 hour shifts five days a week Negrete considers herself much more rested than when pulling over night shifts as was the case for many years. Her two daughters will be seeking their own awards in cheerleading competitions held in California this weekend. The two sisters at sixteen and seventeen years of age are charting a similar course as their parents engaged in physical activities that may benefit their health throughout life and inspire others along the way.

Hearing & Trial Date Is Set in Jason Ellis Case

Public records reveal that Jason Ellis and his co-defendent Hecker (girlfriend) have a pretrial date set for March 11 & trial date set for April 25 (link to public record & Court ). Meanwhile, Ellis is promoting paid shoots for the Arnold Classic. Potential models may not know that Ellis and his co-defendent will be appearing in California Superior Court the following Friday.

If unfamiliar with the charges, "KTLA reported that: Heckler introduced the girl to Ellis under the pretense that he could help with her modeling, Emami said. Between August 2007 and June, Ellis took the girl on dates to movies and dinner, kissing and touching her in public, Emami said. Hecker allegedly helped Ellis gain the trust of the girl’s parents, picking her up from her home supposedly for horseback riding or some other activity. But prosecutors say she took the girl to meet Ellis at the Fashion Island mall and drove her home later. To hide what the two were doing, Hecker allegedly had the girl wear riding clothes when she picked her up or dropped her off, Emami said."

Weider whistle blower connects accused rapist to Muscle & Fitness mag

On Feb. 6, Isaac Hinds an employee of Weider Publications blew the whistle on a coast to coast safety concern for unsuspecting models working with the cover shot
photographer for their latest issue of Muscle & Fitness magazine. "The Ellis story has been public and on forums for a couple years," Hinds wrote at MuscularDevelopment.com. "It's blatantly obvious that the M&F cover image was shot by Ellis, a simple look at the photo credits in the magazine clears that up."

The warnings relate to news accounts of criminal charges dating back to 2008. "33-year old Jason Ellis, whose photos have appeared on the covers of magazines such as Elle and Muscle & Fitness, is charged with three counts of lewd acts and one count each of statutory rape, oral copulation of a minor and digital penetration of a minor, said Farrah Emami of the Orange County District Attorney's Office," reported KTLA-TV in Los Angeles. The criminal case is still pending in the California judicial system according to unverified reports on the web.

Hinds, whose scheduled to cover upcoming bodybuilding events in Jacksonville, Tampa and Ft. Lauderdale slipped this warning out on his blog about the threat posed by his colleague with Weider while attending a West Coast Fitness Expo popular with bodybuilders, fitness, figure and bikini models, athletes and others. One of the leading independent women's oriented fitness social networks Siouxcountry.com caught wind of Hinds warning, "A few creeper photographers were out at the LA Expo. Do your research before shooting with any one. Especially those that name drop & refer themselves as "kings" of anything."

As identity of the photographer and reasons for concern were not initially clear questions followed. Hinds then provided more tips as to the identity of the photographer at Siouxcountry with, "Anyone who is on Facebook can put two and two together. He coins himself the "King of covers." In stating this Hinds connected his colleague at Muscle & Fitness to the news stories of the 2008 rape charge.

Chris Hobrecker, Creative Director for Flex and Muscle & Fitness Hers, additional titles under Weider ownership stated at Siouxcountry, "I cannot speak for the decisions made for Muscle & Fitness and the photographers they may choose to work with, as the new staff works independently from our team. We are part of the same company and I wish them the best after having been at the title for almost 10 years, but Flex and Hers are our priorities in the California office." Hinds seemingly anxious over bringing Weider Publications policies into question could likewise only offer at MuscularDevelopment.com that, "Chris nor I don't have a decision in what Muscle & Fitness does. We're not on staff with them."
The operations of these separate magazine titles were split between California and New York as part of Weider Publications parent company America Media Inc's Chapter 11Bankruptcy restructuring late last year. The split was reportedly in an effort to reduce expenses and improve efficiency. In the process of these changes it is not clear what intercompany safety policies or procedures may exist that would alleviate safety concerns of the public or Weider employees like Hinds. AMI and Weider representatives have not replied to email requests for a response to this story.
