Miami Powerlifting Team Does It Again!!!
10 World Records and a National Team Title

The Miami Powerlifting Team for the second year in a row has captured the National Championship Team Title breaking 10 World Records and winning 4 Gold Medals, 3 Silver Medals and 1 Best Lifter Award at the 2001 Amateur American Powerlifting Federation meet held in Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Club Casino on April 26-28.
..... Over 100 of the top amateur Drug Free powerlifters from all over the United States competed in this annual event with many National and World Records being broken.
..... The Miami Powerlifting Team has racked up an impressive list of wins since 1996: 3 National Team Titles; 20 State Champions; 27 National Champions; 19 World Champions; and 127 World Records.

Kiger and Moore Take Overalls
..... The 2001 NPC South Carolina State Bodybuilding, Fitness and Figure Championships were held on June 9 at the Roger Center For The Arts in Columbia under the promotion of NPC state chairman, Ken Taylor.
..... Pat Kiger, 33, of Charleston, took the superheavyweight class unanimously and after the final comparisons and posedown was the choice of the judges for the overall title.
..... Teresa Moore, 46, of Columbia, SC, was the unanimous choice of the judges for the middleweight class win and the overall title.
..... The Fitness Division was divided into two height classes, short (under 5'3") and tall (over 5'3").
..... The Short Class had four entrants and Heather Provoe, 26, of Goose Creeks, SC, in her very first contest, won all three rounds to take the class and after the final comparisons was the choice of the judges for the overall Fitness Division title.
..... The Figure Division had a total of 14 entrants and Kristy Robbins took the first round (two-piece swimsuit) with 9 points and round two (one-piece swimsuit) with 5 points for a total of 14 points to take the title.

Caudy " Ponchillia Take It All
..... The 2001 NPC Southern Classic, promoted by Don Hollis, was held on June 9 in Jackson, MS at the Thalia Mara Hall.
..... Chris Caudy, 29, of Southaven, MS took the lightheavyweight class and after the final comparisons and posedown was the choice of the judges for the overall title.
..... Thirty-seven-year-old Tina Ponchillia of Nashville, TN took the lightweight class and moved to the finals to take the overall decision in the women’s division.
..... The Fitness Division was divided into the short and tall classes.
..... Sharon Christian, 28, of Little Rock, AR took the short class and after the comparisons with the tall class winner was declared the overall champion.
..... The Figure Division had a total of 13 entrants and the overall winner of the Fitness Division, Sharon Christian, was the pick of the judges for the overall win.

2001 NPC Mid-Florida
Davis and Robichaud Victorious
..... The 2001 NPC Mid-Florida Muscle Classic promoted by Deke Warner was held on June 16 in Orlando with a record 68 competitors.
..... Jason Robichaud, 27, of Clearwater, was the unanimous choice of the judges for the lightweight class win. After the final comparisons and posedown Jason was tied with lightheavyweight class winner Billy Harrison of Ocoee with 10 points each for the overall. After applying the NPC procedure for breaking ties, lightweight class winner Jason Robichaud was declared the overall champion.
..... Suzanne Davis, took the middleweight class unanimously and after the final comparisons and posedown was the choice of the judges for the overall title.

2001 NPC SE Gold's Classic
Ayinla and Black Take Titles
..... The Southeastern Gold's Classic, promoted by Stace Beecham and his Gold's Gym of Rainbow City, was held on June 23 in Gadsden, AL at the Wallace Hall Auditorium. Julius Ayinla, 40, of Atlanta, GA took the superheavyweight title by a close decision (4 - 5) over second placed Bob Burke of Marietta, GA and went on to capture the overall title unanimously. Julius also took the Masters Over 40 Division with a unanimous decision.
..... Thirty-two-year-old Laurie Black of Clay, AL, in her very first contest, was the unanimous winner of the middleweight class and after the final comparisons and posedown was the unanimous choice of the judges for the overall title.
..... The Fitness Division had three entrants and Shannon Dey, 30, of Tallahassee, FL, in her very first contest, took all three rounds of the competition unanimously.
..... Shannon is 5'6" tall, is the vice-president of Legends Fitness Clubs of Tallahassee and Valdosta, GA.
..... The Figure Division had 5 entrants and Tonya Williams, 22, of Atlanta, GA, in her first competition, emerged as the winner with a total score of 14 points.

19th Annual NPC Tampa Bay Classic
Hiatus Pays Off For Robichaud & Hill
..... For Jason Robichaud of Clearwater and Joan Hill of Dade City, June 9, 2001 was a "day of comebacks" at the 19th annual Tampa Bay Classic Bodybuilding Championships, held at the University of South Florida Special Events Center under the promotion of John Schleicher and Superior Sports Productions.
..... After sweeping their respective classes unanimously, Robichaud and Hill decidedly took the overall crowns. The amazing fact about these two champions is that collectively they have been out of competitive bodybuilding for over 20 years.
..... Robichaud, 27, made history by becoming the first Tampa Bay Classic Teen champion (1993) to claim the open overall title. Hill, 41, took 14 years off from bodybuilding to start a family and become a mother of three.
