2002 NPC American Classic
|

The first national qualifier of the year for Alabama, the 2002 NPC
American Bodybuilding Classic, was held on March 23 at the Alabama
Theater in Birmingham under the promotion of Charlie Lindsey. Todd
Elder of Northport, AL took the lightheavyweight class and moved into
the final comparisons and posedown to take the overall title. Rachel
Camp of Albertville, AL was making her contest debut and took the
heavyweight class and the overall title. The Fitness Division was
divided into two height classes and twenty-seven-year-old Michelle
Woodward of Decatur, GA was making her contest debut and was unopposed
in the short class and after the final comparisons was the choice of
the judges for the overall. The Figure Division had six entrants and
twenty-one-year-old Joelle Tyler of Pelham, AL was the choice of the
judges for the win. Joelle is 5’8” tall and trained for 3-months for
this event.

2002 NPC Sunshine Classic
.....
The 20th annual NPC Sunshine Classic Bodybuilding, Fitness and Figure
Championships were held on March 16 at the William T. Dwyer Auditorium
in Palm Beach Gardens under the promotion of Frank Dalto and his Mother
Nature’s Pantry health food stores. Thirty-five-year-old Rick Rosello
of Miami faced nine competitors in the lightheavyweight class and
emerged as the class winner to move on to the finals where he took the
majority of the votes for the overall win. Christina Passi, 24, of West
Palm Beach, made her contest debut by taking the lightweight class
unanimously and moving into the finals to take the overall title. The
Figure Division had three height classes with nine competitors. Zena
Steen, 29, of Palm Beach Gardens took rounds one and two unanimously to
take the short class win and after the final comparisons between the
class winners was the pick of the judges for the overall title.

2002 NPC Wheelchair Nationals

The 200 NPC Wheelchair Nationals were held at the William T. Dwyer
Auditorium in Palm Beach Gardens on March 16 under the promotion of
Frank Dalto and his Mother Nature’s Pantry. The event was held in
conjunction with the Sunshine Classic. A total of 16 athletes competed
in the masters and open classes. Carlo Trent, 30, of Kennewick, WA
dominated the lightheavyweight class with a unanimous decision for the
class win and moved into the finals to take the overall title. Carlo
has been weight training for five years and works out at the Universe
Gym in Kennewick.

2002 NPC Capital City
.....
The 2002 Capital City Bodybuilding, Fitness and Figure Championships
were held on March 30 at the Moon in Tallahassee under the promotion of
Adam Odgen and D & A Nutrition stores of Tallahassee.
Twenty-six-year-old Marshall Mayo of Orange Park, FL was making his
contest debut and took the heavyweight class with a unanimous decision
and moved into the finals to take a 6 to 9 win for the overall title.
Willeena Woodall, 28, of Perry, FL took the heavyweight class also by a
unanimous decision - - and with no other classes having competitors,
took the overall title. The Figure Division had 10 entrants and
Jennifer Thomas, 28, of Colorado Springs, CO dominated rounds one and
two to take the title. Jennifer is 5’1” tall and has been weight
training for only 18 months and works out at the World Gym in Colorado
Springs.

2002 Northwest Florida District Championships
.....
The 2002 NPC Northwest Florida District Bodybuilding Championships were
held on March 30 in Tallahassee under the promotion of Adam Odgen and D
& A Nutrition at the Moon. Thirty-one-year-old Steve Pfiester of
Tallahassee dominated the heavyweight class by taking the class
unanimously and after the final comparisons and posedown edged out the
lightweight winner by a score of 5 - 2 to take the overall title.
Willeena Woodall, 28, of Perry, was unopposed in the heavyweight class
and moved into the finals to take the overall unanimously.
