2001 NPC Southern USA

..... Jebby Thibodeaux, 33, of Lake Charles, LA battled a field of 7 competitors in the middleweight class to take that class unanimously. Then moved on to the final comparisons to once again take the class with a unanimous decision. The final comparisons and posedown for the overall title had Thibodeaux coming out on top to take the title by a score of 8 to 11.
..... Yamile Marrero, 38, of Hollywood, was the unanimous choice of the judges for the heavyweight class winner. Marrero was again the unanimous choice for the heavyweight winner after the final comparisons. Marrero moved to the final comparisons and posedown for the overall title and edged out lightweight Minerva Gonzalez by a score of 7 to 9.
..... The 2001 NPC Southern USA, a national qualifier, was held on April 21 at the Marina Civic Center in Panama City. FL. The event was promoted by Pat Sporer, Florida West District chairman.
..... The Fitness Division had three entrants in the tall class with a different winner of each round.
..... Casique Smith, 26, of Tallahassee won round one (two-piece swimsuit round) with 5 points; Brandy Wyatt, 21, of Ft. Walton Beach, won round two (fitness routine) with 8 points; and Kelly Penrod, 28, of Gainesville won the third round (one-piece swimsuit) with 5 points.
..... After all three rounds were tabulated Kelly Penrod emerged as the overall winner with a total of 24 points. Casique Smith took second place with 28 points and Brandy Wyatt was third with 38 points.
..... The Figure Division had a total of 7 entrants with Erin Lanahan, 21, of Tallahassee winning round one (two piece swimsuit) with 10 points and round two (one-piece swimsuit) with 7 points to take the overall title.

2001 NPC Alabama State Championships

..... Two former Alabama Champions made their return to the competition stage at the Alabama Championships to once again repeat as state title holders.
..... Jon Szubski, 36, of Mobile, dominated the heavyweight class and after the final comparisons and posedown narrowly defeated Steve Cunningham by a score of 7 - 8 to take the overall title.
..... Sandy Tamburello, 40, of Foley, was unopposed in the women’s lightweight class and went into the finals against heavyweight winner Linda Cunningham to take the overall title by a vote of 6 - 9.
..... The Alabama State Championships were held on May 5 in Mobile at the Lafayette Plaza and was promoted by Jason Greene.

2001 NPC Metrolina

..... A record number of entrants, 64, and a capacity crowd witnessed Bobby Thompson, 30, of Piedmont, SC, dominate the heavyweight class and take the overall title.
..... Melanie Thompson, 28, of Charlotte, NC was the unanimous choice of the judges for the lightweight division title and after the final comparisons and posedown was the overall winner of the Women’s Division.
..... The 2001 NPC Metrolina Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships were held on April 21 and was promoted by Roger and Casey Morrison and their Gold's Gym in Kannapolis.
