South Florida District Championships

..... The 2000 NPC Florida South District Bodybuilding Championships were held on November 4 at the McArthur High School in Hollywood. Sergio Pacheco and his Physique World Gym promoted the even that featured eight different divisions.
..... Jorge Rojas, 30, of Miami was the unanimous pick of the judges for the heavyweight class and took the overall unanimously. Rojas weighed in at 214 pounds.
..... Joanka Lana, 30, of Miami, weighed in at 111 pounds and captured the women’s lightweight class and went on to take the overall title.

2000 Florida Gold Cup Classic

..... The men’s open overall posedown was a battle to remember for Pete Deltoro of Port St. Lucie and Peter Birchfield of West Palm Beach. They were tied (9 - 9) at the conclusion of the final comparisons and posedown - after going through the tie-breaking process, lightheavyweight Pete Deltoro was declared the overall winner.
..... The women’s open overall was taken by heavyweight Crystal Sullivan of Miami over middleweight Evelyn Rosenblatt and lightweight Tammy Breece.
..... The 6th annual NPC Florida Gold Cup Classic, Florida’s official drug tested championships, was held November 18 in Palm Beach Gardens at the William T. Dywer auditorium and was promoted by Bart Berling, Frank Dalto and his Mother Nature’s Pantry health food stores.
..... Vicki Newton, 27, of Miami, was unopposed in the tall class and went on to take the overall fitness title.
..... Newton, 5’5” tall and 134 pounds, has competed twice before placing 6th in the 1999 Southern States and 3rd in the 2000 Debbie Kruck Classic. Newton also ran track at the 1989 Junior Olympics in San Jose, CA.

21st Annual Gainesville Championships

..... Richard Ordaye, 32, moved up a weight class from the ‘98 Gainesville Championships to win the middleweight class and the overall unanimously in the 2000 Gainesville Championships.
..... Laurie Butler, 33, moved from a 2nd place in the ‘99 Gainesville to a unanimous lightweight class win and overall in the 2000 edition.
..... The 21st edition of the 2000 Gainesville Bodybuilding Championships was promoted by John Babb and his Gainesville Gym on November 4 at the Lincoln Auditorium. This is one of the longest consistent running local NPC events in Florida.
