Hi everyone. This is the time of the year that everyone is starting up again. Looking at the schedule, figuring out what show they want (or should) do. Now the women have to decide whether or not to move to bikini or stay in figure. All these decisions to make. Well I am here to make the Tanning part of it easy. That is why I want to talk about skin preparation. I cannot stress too much the importance of it.
When we receive an appointment for Tanning at a show we always send out a ‘skin prep instruction’ e-mail. This is to help the competitor better prepare themselves to come see us. The better that your skin is prepared, the better your color will go on. It will look smooth, flawless and last longer. You need to prepare for your Spray Tan by showering and exfoliating your body from head to toe. Do not forget to scrub your back. Come to us with clean, dry skin. No body lotions, deoderant, or make-up. There are allot of products out there but we suggest ProTans’s “Get Buffed” or JanTana’s "Neutralizing Scrub" or “Pre Tan Scrub” (same products) to exfoliate. Also JanTana has a great moisturizer that you use directly after the shower. Your Competition Color will go on better and last longer if you are using these products starting 3-5 days out. (No LIE!) The Neutralizing Scrub evens out the pH balance in your skin and the Moisturizer helps condition your skin to take your color better. Also, it will reduce that 'muddy' effect that competitors seem to get after wearing their color for long periods of time. If you are using other scrub products, make sure that they do not have any perfumes or oils in them. Also, DO NOT put on deodorant Before or After applying Color. Deodorant will raise the skin's pH and turn your arm pits green!
DO’S and DON’TS of making your after tan color last longer
After your show is over and you take your first shower, you will still have a great tan. To keep that beautiful color lasting longer, you have to keep it moisturized. Dry skin will make your tan fade faster. Do not use perfumed moisturizers, they are made with alcohol and alcohol is drying to the skin. Do not us a moisturizer that has mineral oil in it. Mineral oil will break down your color and make it fade funky. Do use a moisturizer that is made specifically for airbrush tanning. Do not use a loofa or exfoliating product for at least 7 to 10 days. Believe me there is no way to scrub off the tan and that will just make it look awful. It needs to fade gradually. Do use a gentle soap for the first 7 to 10 days. A ‘soap free’ or organic soap is great. These are gentle to the skin not like harsh soaps or cleansers that are drying.
This is the lesson for the month. I look forward to seeing everyone real soon!
