2001 NPC Daytona Beach Muscle Classic
.....
The 2001 NPC Daytona Beach Muscle Classic was held in conjunction with
the W.P.O. Bench Press Contest on September 9 at the Seaside Music
Theater in Daytona Beach under the promotion of Brian Amendola, Kieran
Kidder and Huge Iron Productions. .....Thirty-three-year-old
Todd Huegel of Port St. Lucie took the lightheavyweight class
unanimously and moved to the finals and was the unanimous pick of the
judges for the overall title. .....Deborah
Callahan, 45, of Lakeland was unopposed in the middleweight class and
after the final comparisons and posedown edged out lightweight class
winner Kristine Grace by one point, 7 - 8, to take the overall victory.

2001 NPC Tennessee State Championships
.....
The 2001 NPC Tennessee State Bodybuilding, Fitness and Figure
Championships were held on August 25 at the Cookeville High School
Auditorium under the promotion of Tennessee District Chairman Roger
McConnell and Brian Hayworth. .....Thirty-one-year-old
Frank Roberson of Cookeville was the unanimous choice for the
heavyweight class win and after the final comparisons and posedown was
the choice of the judges for the overall state title. .....Veronica
Lanterman, 34, of Knoxville took the middleweight class in the women's
open division and moved to the finals to take the overall state title. .....Thirty-eight-year-old Tammy Leo of Sevierville was unopposed in the Fitness Division. .....Tammy
is 5'3" tall and has competed in the past in bodybuilding and has been
working out for 6 years and trains at National Fitness in Sevierville. .....The
Figure Division was divided into two classes, short and tall, and Kate
Shelby, 29, of Jackson dominated rounds one (two-piece swimsuit) and
two (one-piece swimsuit) to take the short class win and after the
final comparisons was the choice of the judges for the overall. .....Kate is 5'3" tall and trains at Nick's Gym in Jackson, "a home gym with all of the luxuries of a real gym."

2001 NPC Greater Knox Classic
.....
The 2001 NPC Greater Knox Bodybuilding and Figure Classic was held on
August 4 at the Bijou Theatre in Knoxville under the promotion of
Greater Knox Promotions and Clay Spires and Melissa Maness. .....The event drew a total of 74 competitors and a sold out house (sold out a week prior to the event) of 800+ fans. .....Randy
Moore, 35, of Kodak, TN took a close decision (5-6) over Tony McKinney,
39, of Chattanooga, TN to take the heavyweight class. .....Randy then moved on to the finals to take the overall title. .....Veronica
Lanterman, 34, of Knoxville also took a close decision (4-5) over Gail
Bradley, 43, of Cookeville, TN to take the middleweight class win. .....After the final comparisons and posedown Veronica was declared the overall winner. .....The Figure Division had a total of 15 entrants with 7 in the short class, under 5'3", and 8 in the tall, over 5'3". .....Liz
McKinney, 26, of Richmond, KY, in her first competition, dominated
rounds one (two-piece swimsuit) and two (one-piece swimsuit) to take
the short class title and after the final comparisons was chosen as the
overall Figure Champion.

.....
The 2001 NPC Central Florida District Bodybuilding and Fitness
Championships were held on September 15 at the Orlando Expo Center
under the promotion of Deke Warner. .....Randy
Chaney, 24, of Deltona was unopposed in the heavyweight class and moved
to the finals to take a unanimous decision for the overall title. .....Forty-two-year-old
Ellen Woodley of Orlando was the choice of the judges for the
lightweight class and after the final comparisons and posedown was the
unanimous choice for the overall. .....The
Figure Division had five entrants and thirty-four-year-old Anita Ervin
of Casselberry took round one (two-piece swimsuit) with 6 points and
round two (one-piece swimsuit) by just one point, 7 - 8, for a total of
13 points to take the overall title.

.....
The 2001 NPC Coastal USA Bodybuilding Championships was held at the
World Congress Center in Atlanta on August 18 under the promotion of
Georgia State NPC Chairman, Ty "Ropeman" Felder. .....Thirty-eight-year-old
Mark Wallace of Atlanta, GA dominated the heavyweight class with a
unanimous decision and moved to the finals to take the overall title. .....Dena
Westerfield, 30, of Marietta, GA, in her contest debut, captured the
heavyweight class by unanimous decision and after the final comparisons
and posedown was declared the overall winner. .....The Figure Division had a total of 10 entrants with six in the short class and four in the tall class. .....Melisa
Shepherd, 32, of Woodstock, GA was the unanimous winner of the tall
class by taking rounds one (two-piece swimsuit) and round two
(one-piece swimsuit) and moving to the finals and taking the overall
win.

Hagen Panton and his General Nutrition Center of Palm Bay. .....Thirty-one-year-old
Peter Birchfield of Palm Beach Gardens dominated the heavyweight class
and moved to the finals to take the overall win. .....Marilyn
Jackson, 30, of Tampa, took the lightweight class unanimously and after
the final comparisons and posedown edged out middleweight class winner
Rhonda Panks by a score of 7 - 8 for the overall win. .....The
Figure Division had four entrants and Brandi Campbell, 28, of Plant
City was second in round one (two-piece swimsuit) with 11 points and
tied for second in round two (one-piece swimsuit) with 10 points and
took the division win with a total of 21 points over second placed Tara
Harris, 22, who had a total of 22 points (8 points in round one and 14
points in round two). .....Brandie is 5'9" tall and weighed 129 pounds and was competing for the first time.
