2001 NPC Heart of Dixie Ladiner and Black Take It All
.....
The 2001 NPC Heart of Dixie was held for the first time in Foley, AL at
the Foley Civic Center on August 18 under the promotion of Jason Greene
to a sold-out, standing room only audience. .....Veteran
competitor Joe Ladiner, 37, of Biloxi, MS took the heavyweight class
unanimously and after the final comparisons and posedown took the
overall title unanimously also. .....Laurie
Black, 32, of Clay, AL continued her winning streak for 2001 by taking
the middleweight class unanimously then taking the overall decision by
a score of 7 - 8 over lighweight Carla Neal.

2001 NPC Southern States
.....
The 22nd Anniversary NPC Southern States Bodybuilding, Fitness and
Figure Championships were held August 3 and 4 at the War Memorial
Auditorium in Ft. Lauderdale boasted over 200 competitors in a highly
organized two-day event. .....Albert
Woolridge, 36, of Wilton Manors took the overall men's open title in a
heavily heated posedown battle against middleweight Omar Borrelli;
lightweight Luis Marquez; superheavyweight Mark Hebensperger;
lightweight Raul Feliciano; and bantamweight Dewey Johnson. .....Loleta
Riley, 36, of Pembroke Pines took the women's open overall title by
beating heavyweight Fabiani Luzardo and lightweight Benny Nambiar.

2001 NPC Southern States Fitness & Figure Championships
.....
The 2001 NPC Maria Bellando Southern States Fitness and Figure
Championships were held on August 3 at the War Memorial Auditorium in
Ft. Lauderdale to kick-off the Southern States weekend of competition. .....The
Figure Division was added for the first time and also setting another
first was a record number of competitors, 50, and an audience of 1500+. .....The Women's Fitness Division was divided into two height classes; short, 5'3" and under and tall, over 5'3". .....Carla Freda, 31, of Hallandale, took all three rounds to take the short class win. .....The Southern States is one of the very few national qualifying events that has a Men's Fitness Division. .....The
three rounds in the Men's Fitness are: round one, physique; round two,
routine; and round 3, strength (pull-ups and push-ups). .....Manual
Mair, 31, a former U. S. Marine from Coral Springs, took the title in
1999 and returned to capture the overall title for a second time. A
total of 34 entrants in the Figure Division dictated having two classes
in this event. .....The tall class had 19 entrants and forty-three-year-old Marlene Harden of Davie won the class by taking first in both rounds. .....Marlene then moved to the finals and took the overall title by unanimous decision.

2001 NPC East Coast Muscle Classic
.....
The 2001 NPC East Coast Muscle Classic, a drug tested event, was held
on July 14 at the Henneger Center in Melbourne under the promotion of
Chris Gurney, Cindy Pugliese and their C & C Productions along with
Elite Physiques. .....Jeff
Cervero, 30, of Oviedo, took the lightheavyweight class unanimously and
after the final comparisons and posedown took a 7 - 8 decision over
middleweight Richard Daggs for the overall title. .....Laurie
Wallace, 30, of Vero Beach, was the choice of the judges for the
heavyweight title and after final comparisons took the overall.

2001 NPC Excalibur
.....
The 2001 NPC Excalibur was held on August 4 at the Sottile Theater in
Charleston, SC under the promotion of Tres Bennett. .....Thirty-four-year
old John Wilkins of Fayetteville, NC took the lightheavyweight class
unanimously and moved on to the finals to take the overall decision. .....Forty-two-year
old Michelle Canaday of Charleston, SC was unopposed in the
middleweight class and after the final comparisons and posedown was the
choice of the judges for the overall win. .....Wendy
Wolbert of Smithfield, NC, in her first fitness event, had a two point
lead, 19 - 21, going into round three of the Fitness competition and
scored five points in round three (one-piece swimsuit) to take the
title. .....Wendy took round one (two-piece swimsuit) with 5 points and scored 14 points in round two (routine). .....The
Figure Division had eight competitors and twenty-four-year old Amanda
Platt of North Charleston, SC edged out the competition by scoring 6
points in round one (two-piece swimsuit) and 11 points in round two
(one-piece swimsuit) for a total of 17 points to take the overall win.

2001 NPC Western North Carolina
.....
The 2001 NPC Western Carolina Bodybuilding and Figure Championships
were held on August 11 at the J. E. Broyhill Center in Lenoir, North
Carolina under the promotion of Jim Propost. .....Thirty-year-old
Tony Harris of Charlotte took the lightweight class unanimously and
moved on to the finals and after the comparisons and posedown was the
pick of the judges for the overall title. .....Allison
McCarthy, 29, of Randleman took the heavyweight class unanimously and
after the final comparisons and posedown was the choice for the overall
title. .....The Figure Division had a
total of 10 entrants and thirty-one-year-old Laura Schiltz of Charlotte
was the unanimous winner of round one (two-piece swimsuit) and round
two (one-piece swimsuit) to take the overall title.
