Judging - - From The Cheap Seats

by NPC District Chairman and Publisher Pete Fancher,

All to often, and sometimes it is justified, we as judges, hear or are told in no uncertain terms, that we are all blind, don’t know what we are doing, the fix was in, the decision was political, certain competitor is a friend of one of the judges or the judge is a trainer that trains that competitor - - and it goes on and on.

It is really easy to sit in the cheap seats and become the expert.

True To Self: Following Through

by Jeanne Colesanti

In hindsight, my preparation for the 2008 NPC Nationals actually began in training for The Dexter Jackson Classic and Debbie Kruck Classic competitions.  My short-term goals during my preparation for Dexter's Show were focused on testing my stage presence and confidence. With only 5 weeks to prep prior to committing to Dexter's show the strategy was all about tweaking my physique, posing techniques, cleaning up my diet, and adding more cardio to my workout schedule.  Considering the short time to prep a vigorous protocol was implemented. Although I constantly desire to commit to another show my competition mode had been off since 2004. Yet, once I commit there is no turning back (continued).

Take It Outdoors: Cautiously

by Karla Podewils

www.KarlaPodewils.com

The fall season is quickly approaching and the heat of the summer has dwindled under cool ocean breezes. This is the perfect time to switch up your current exercise routine and take it outdoors! Running on the treadmill can be monotonous - who wants to stare at a blank, white wall anyways? Or, worse yet, strain your neck trying to watch T.V. Multi-tasking while exercising does not work. Period.

As a species we desire a connection with the natural world. Incorporating a workout outdoors even if only once a week can reduce tension, lower blood pressure, and can even increase your productivity when in the gym! Did you know that you can burn up to 10% more calories just by working out outdoors? (continued).

Bridge Pose: Grounds & Provides Sense of Security
by Lisa T. Daniel

Yoga with its many branches is constantly evolving. Yoga is a physical practice consisting of postures that realign and help to strengthen and lengthen the body. It is a mental practice that incorporates pranayama or breath work and meditation. And it is also a spiritual practice integrating both body and mind to bring about oneness, joy, peace, and balance.

We all need balance in our lives and balance helps to promote harmony and healing of the body, mind and spirit. When we are balanced we feel that union or oneness with the divine energy of the universe.

Beginning our yoga practice, our first focus will be on creating balance and a sense of feeling grounded, secure, and stable in our foundation.
A yoga posture to achieve this sense of grounded ness and connection to the earth is: SETU BANDHASANA or BRIDGE POSE (continued).

Going Green

by Alisa Hostettler

www.HotSpotSarasota.com

Hi everyone. Alisa Hostettler here again with Hot Spot Tanning. This month I would like to talk about 'going green'. And not the eco-friendly way!
Every once in a while, we in the business of spraying competition color will either see a competitor on stage with green undertones on their skin or have one of our clients 'go green'. The first thing that we think is that the client 'did something wrong'. Either they didn't prepare their skin correctly before getting their color on or that the color itself reacted badly with their skin, or they ate something that changed the pH balance in their skin. The Client, on the other hand will think that the product itself was bad and caused the greenish tint. Well, I am here to tell you that there could only be a couple of things to make that happen and if you follow my direction, then you most likely will have your color turn out perfect (continued).

Bodybuilding As A Spiritual Path

By Kevin Richardson

www.NaturallyIntense.net

Sometimes truth contains apparent contradictions. Contradictions that come as a result of
the intellect struggling to comprehend that which is beyond intellectual comprehension.
Such truths speak to that which lies well beyond the façade of ego and instead communicates directly with that which is the spirit within us. The spiritual part of ourselves, timeless and ever present. The side that we so often choose to ignore. Time has taught us as a people that the physical can indeed be a gateway towards the spiritual. By using the shell of the body, and taking it to an extreme place where it can no longer go, we find ourselves in a place where another side of is manifested (continued).

Parting Shot

Cameras are devices that respond to light. The basic concepts behind photography haven't really changed much since they were first invented. Cameras control light to capture images on media. That's all there is to it. Light, a piece of glass, and something to shine the light on that is physically sensitive to it. But most photographers are not interested in just "pictures"; we want to capture something else. We want emotion, shock, rawness, elegance, fear, solace, greatness, passion, indifference, we want the verb (continued)!
